TABANAN, BALI — Connecting academic knowledge with practical educational experience, two students from the Bachelor of Islamic Religious Education Program (S1 PAI) at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Denpasar Bali participated in Teaching Practicum (Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan or PPL) and Integrative Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN Integratif) activities at SDN 1 Kediri, Tabanan, Bali. Through classroom instruction, educational administration, Islamic religious activities, and community-oriented initiatives, Mochamd Habi Sutrisno and Adinda Rhismadyanthy contributed to the school’s educational environment while gaining valuable experience as prospective educators.
The program provided an opportunity for the students to apply the knowledge and pedagogical concepts acquired during their university studies in a real elementary school setting. Their involvement extended beyond classroom teaching, encompassing activities designed to support educational services, promote Islamic values, and encourage positive character development among schoolchildren.
Developing Teaching Competencies through Classroom Experience
One of the main components of the program was direct participation in classroom teaching activities involving Grade 2 and Grade 4 students. This experience allowed the students to engage with elementary school learners while becoming more familiar with the responsibilities and practical demands of the teaching profession.
Classroom practice plays an important role in preparing future educators. It provides opportunities to develop communication skills, understand student interactions, strengthen classroom management abilities, and apply educational knowledge in real learning situations.
For students pursuing Islamic Religious Education, such experiences are particularly relevant in preparing them to become competent, responsible, and adaptive teachers who can contribute to the development of education in diverse social environments.
Supporting School Educational Facilities and Library Administration
Beyond their teaching responsibilities, Mochamd Habi Sutrisno and Adinda Rhismadyanthy also participated in administrative activities supporting the school library.
The involvement reflected the broader responsibilities associated with educational service. School libraries are important learning environments that provide access to educational resources and support students’ reading interests. Proper administrative support can contribute to the organization and availability of learning materials for the school community.
This experience also introduced the students to the importance of educational administration as an integral part of school management, demonstrating that meaningful contributions to education extend beyond classroom instruction.
Promoting Islamic Values through Religious Activities
The students also contributed to Islamic educational activities at SDN 1 Kediri, including the organization of a Maulid Nabi celebration commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The celebration provided an educational context for introducing students to Islamic teachings, religious awareness, and the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad. Through activities associated with this commemoration, students were encouraged to become familiar with values such as kindness, responsibility, respect, and good conduct.
Another activity involved organizing a communal viewing of a story about Prophet Muhammad. The use of audiovisual learning provided an alternative approach to introducing prophetic stories and moral lessons in a format that could engage elementary school students.
These activities illustrated the potential of creative educational approaches in making Islamic learning more accessible and meaningful for younger learners.
Encouraging Responsibility, Cooperation, and Student Participation
The students’ contributions also included cleaning and maintaining the school’s musholla (prayer room). This activity reflected the importance of cleanliness, cooperation, and responsibility in maintaining shared worship facilities.
Within Islamic education, maintaining a clean and comfortable place of worship can also serve as a practical learning experience, connecting religious values with everyday responsibilities and social awareness.
In addition, the students organized competitions in welcoming National Santri Day 2026 (Hari Santri Nasional). The activities provided opportunities to encourage student participation, creativity, togetherness, and appreciation of the contribution of santri to Indonesian society.
National Santri Day also offers an important educational context for introducing values such as religious commitment, discipline, enthusiasm for learning, and dedication to the community.
Through these initiatives, the students participated in creating educational experiences that connected religious awareness with positive social interaction and character development.
Academic Supervision and STAI Denpasar Bali’s Educational Commitment
The PPL and Integrative KKN activities were conducted under the academic supervision of Haris Nursyah Arifin, S.Si., M.Pd., serving as the Field Supervisor (Dosen Pembimbing Lapangan or DPL) from STAI Denpasar Bali.
Academic supervision is an important component of experiential learning, helping students connect theoretical knowledge gained through university education with practical responsibilities in educational and community settings.
For STAI Denpasar Bali, the participation of its S1 PAI students at SDN 1 Kediri reflects the importance of integrating academic learning with direct educational engagement. The program provides prospective Islamic Religious Education teachers with opportunities to experience school environments, understand educational responsibilities, and participate in activities that support the wider school community.
The experience of Mochamd Habi Sutrisno and Adinda Rhismadyanthy demonstrates that the contribution of future educators is not limited to delivering classroom lessons. It also involves supporting educational facilities, introducing religious values, encouraging student participation, and fostering a sense of responsibility toward the surrounding community.
Through Teaching Practicum and Integrative Community Service, STAI Denpasar Bali continues to provide opportunities for students to learn, serve, and develop their professional competencies beyond the university classroom.
Learning, Serving, and Inspiring: These experiences represent an important part of preparing future Islamic educators who are academically capable, socially responsible, and committed to contributing positively to education and society.
