Denpasar, Bali – Two undergraduate students from the Islamic Education Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Denpasar Bali, Azzah Medinah Widyazizah (Student ID: 23022010009) and Afinda Panca Ningtyas (Student ID: 23022010003), have participated in the Integrated Teaching Practicum and Community Service Program (PPL and KKN Integratif) through a series of educational, religious, social, and environmental activities in Denpasar and Gianyar, Bali. The program forms part of their academic learning experience, providing opportunities to apply their knowledge while engaging directly with schools and local communities.
The teaching practicum was based at SD Negeri 4 Sumerta, Denpasar, under the supervision of Dr. Novena Ade F.S., S.S., M.Hum. As part of their educational and character-building engagement at the school, the students participated in activities commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Maulid Nabi) and organized an anti-bullying seminar. These initiatives addressed religious values, positive behavior, mutual respect, and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive school environment.
Beyond the school setting, the students also carried out community service initiatives at several local institutions and community learning spaces. At Masjid Al-Qomar, they implemented the Green Mosque (Masjid Hijau) initiative, encouraging environmental awareness, cleanliness, and responsible practices within the mosque community.
Their commitment to education and literacy was reflected in the Reading Garden (Taman Membaca) initiative at Rumah Belajar Aliya, which aimed to encourage children’s reading habits and strengthen their interest in learning. Meanwhile, at Majelis Taklim Baitullah Tojan, they participated in a women’s religious study gathering (Pengajian Ibu-Ibu) as an effort to support Islamic learning and strengthen engagement with the local community.
Environmental awareness was further promoted through a waste-sorting campaign (Pilah Sampah) at Musholla Al-Amin, Gianyar. This activity highlighted the importance of proper waste management and maintaining cleanliness as part of everyday community responsibility.
Through these interconnected activities, the Integrated PPL and KKN program demonstrates the application of Islamic Education beyond the classroom. It provides students with practical opportunities to connect pedagogical knowledge, Islamic values, literacy development, social responsibility, and environmental awareness with the needs of society.
For STAI Denpasar Bali, such community-based learning initiatives represent an important part of preparing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible and responsive to community needs. The program also reinforces the role of higher education institutions in contributing to educational development and meaningful community engagement.
