STAI Denpasar Bali Sharia Economics Students Gain Professional Experience in Islamic Banking and Community Engagement

DENPASAR, BALI — Three students from the Sharia Economics Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Denpasar Bali, Inna Tri Afriyani, Nuris Syarifah, and M. Irfan Gustafianto, participated in the Teaching Practicum (Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan or PPL) and Integrative Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN Integratif) program through professional placements and community-based activities in Denpasar, Bali. Their PPL placement at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) KC Denpasar provided opportunities to connect academic knowledge with practical experiences in Islamic banking operations and financial services.

During their placement, the students gained exposure to customer service activities, including assisting customers with account-opening procedures, banking documentation, identity verification under Know Your Customer (KYC) principles, ATM card activation, and digital banking services. They also supported customer satisfaction surveys and the organization of account-opening documents to maintain orderly branch administration.

Their experience extended to cash management and operational controls. Under applicable banking procedures, they participated in counting and sorting banknotes, reconciling physical cash with operational records, and classifying currency into Fit for Circulation (ULE) and Unfit for Circulation (UTLE) categories. They also assisted in reviewing large-cash transaction documentation and matching transaction records with daily branch journals.

In banking administration, the students participated in physical inventory checks involving savings books, ATM/debit cards, and cheque and giro documents. They also supported administrative procedures related to damaged or non-functional ATM cards, as well as the preparation of internal transaction and Back Office Center (BOC) clearing forms.

Digital financial services formed another important aspect of their practical learning. The students assisted customers and merchants with QRIS BSI registration and activation, provided information through direct services and telephone communication, and gained insight into the growing role of digital payment systems in supporting accessible financial services.

Beyond routine banking operations, they contributed to customer relationship activities through the organization of the BSI Small Priority Gathering, supporting event logistics, registration, and coordination. They also participated in multimedia documentation, including video recording and editing for various institutional events, particularly the BSI Kemenhaj Bali Expo 2026.

Alongside their professional placement, the students’ Integrative KKN activities were associated with the 2026 Economic Census in East Denpasar District. This placement context broadened the scope of their experiential learning beyond financial institutions and connected their academic background with community-oriented economic activities.

The program was conducted under the academic supervision of Iswahyuni, S.P., M.MA., as Field Supervisor (Dosen Pembimbing Lapangan or DPL). Through these experiences, the students developed practical insights into administrative accuracy, customer communication, operational responsibility, digital financial services, and professional service standards.

For STAI Denpasar Bali, this program reflects the importance of experiential learning in preparing Sharia Economics graduates to respond to the needs of the Islamic financial services sector and wider society. By integrating academic knowledge with workplace exposure and community engagement, students are encouraged to develop professional competence, adaptability, digital literacy, and a strong sense of responsibility.
